2024 Poll Leaves DeSantis, Biden Neck-in-Neck

On the GOP side, there is more and more support for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to run for president in 2024.

In Florida, state officials have even talked about doing away with a rule that would mandate DeSantis resign as governor if he does choose to run for office.

This same rule was pulled several years ago when Florida Democrat Charlie Crist was on a national general election ticket.

Republicans who are growing weary of Trump and the baggage tied to him are largely turning to DeSantis. As this happens, a new 2024 poll now shows the Florida governor and current president in a dead heat, according to Newsmax.

An Interesting Turn of Events

In a Marquette Law School survey, DeSantis and Biden each receive 42% of the vote. This comes from a survey that includes 368 Republicans and 472 Democrats.

This same poll showed that in a Trump vs. Biden rematch, Trump would lose handily with 34% to Biden’s 44%.

Additional Marquette Law School findings reveal that in a GOP primary pitting DeSantis against Trump, 63% (spanning party affiliation) want DeSantis, while just 36% favor Trump for the nomination.

DeSantis and Biden have already previously traded blows, amid anticipation of them being 2024 rivals. In fact, of all Republican governors, DeSantis has been most frequently targeted by the Biden administration on several occasions.

More Waiting Time

At this time, the GOP primaries are roughly 13 months away. Reports indicate that if DeSantis does choose to run for president in the 2024 race, he likely won’t announce it until sometime in May 2023.

Meanwhile, Trump declared his candidacy just last month. This has been widely speculated as a strategy by the former president to keep other Republicans out of the race.

However, Republicans from former Vice President Mike Pence to former UN ambassador Nikki Haley, and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have not confirmed that Trump’s candidacy will keep them from running.

Some Republicans, like former House Speaker Paul Ryan, have also stated Trump is the only GOP candidate who could lose to Biden. Ryan furthermore predicted that Trump ultimately won’t win the Republican nomination and will be seen as unelectable.

Ultimately, time will tell. Though just over the course of this year alone, pro-DeSantis super PACs, such as Ready for Ron and Ron to the Rescue, are emerging.

These PACs are doing the groundwork to build support for DeSantis with the intention of passing everything onto his campaign, in the event that he starts a presidential run.

What do you think of the new poll that shows Ron DeSantis and Joe Biden tied in a 2024 general election matchup? Do you believe the Florida governor will run for president?
