Raul Ortiz, chief of the Border Patrol, claimed the situation at the U.S. border is mostly due to the fact few penalties are being meted out to most illegal immigrants.
6,000 Migrants Crossing the Southern Border Each Day
On July 28, Ortiz stated in a hearing for a lawsuit that Ashley Moody, the attorney general of Florida, brought against the federal government, “In my experience, we ’ve witnessed rises when there are no consequences.”
Ortiz added that Americans are put in danger as a result of the border issue.
His remarks differ from those of Alejandro Mayorkas, secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, who repeatedly claimed the border is secure and there is no problem.
Karine Jean-Pierre, the press secretary for the White House, said on August 29, “it’s not simply that individuals are strolling across the border.”
As per Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data, Border Patrol officials are currently arresting an average of 6,000 migrants who are crossing the southern border unlawfully each day.

Over two million illegal aliens are expected to be apprehended by agents during the fiscal year that ends on September 30.
Along the southern border, Border Patrol personnel have detained 9,381 criminal aliens with criminal convictions and 66 illegal immigrants who are on the U.S. government’s terrorist blacklist.
According to Ortiz, the number of illegal immigrants will rise as long as the government doesn’t imprison or expel the majority of them.
“There is an idea that certainly, you can observe rises if migrant groups are told there is a possibility that they may be freed,” he added.

According to Ortiz, economic factors consistently promote illegal immigration.
He asserted, “I believe practically every single individual immigrant we see is being pushed by economic opportunities that are available or the lack thereof in their own country.”
According to CBP data, hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens have been allowed into the country during the first ten months of this fiscal year, pending the result of their immigration court cases.
Thousands of Illegal Immigrants Allowed into the Country
Congress mandated through the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) of 1952 that all undocumented and illegal immigrants be held in detention while their legal status is ascertained.
At this point, they are either deported or permitted entry with legal status.
Despite not being a legal status, parole is an exception to the rule. In accordance with the INA, it allows one-year entrance “on a case-by-case basis” for “urgent humanitarian purposes or considerable public benefit.”
Under its new “Parole + ATD” category, CBP freed more than 252,300 illegal aliens in bulk in the first ten months of this fiscal year. The alternative options to Detention (ATD) program serve as a legal detainment of illegal immigration workaround.
The goal of the Department of Homeland Security seems to be to give illegal aliens the quickest route to being let into the country.
