Trump critics within the Republican Party are getting more vocal in their opposition to the former president for the next election.
Former New Jersey governor and a one-time Trump ally, Chris Christie, is asking Republicans to disown Trump if they want to win the 2024 presidential election.
Christie Slams Trump After Midterm
According to Christie, Republicans are hesitating to mention Trump by name, like actors in the Harry Potter movies were reluctant to name Voldemort.
Furthermore, Christie noted Republicans preparing to compete against Trump in the 2024 Republican primaries are reluctant to mention him by name as if he is the Voldemort of American politics.
So, Christie advised Republicans to denounce Trump by mentioning his name if they really want to get popular on the national level.
Christie backed Trump for a long time, even after competing against him in the 2016 GOP primaries. However, he has been opposing the former president since the 2020 presidential election, accusing him of falsely propagating the voter fraud narrative to undermine democracy.

Now, Christie is aiming to run for the presidency in 2024, which means he will come head-to-head against Trump once again.
Even though Trump has many critics in the Republican Party, most of them have avoided slamming the former president in public to bypass the backlash of grassroots Republican voters.
However, Christie publicly lashed out at Trump without caring about pro-Trump voters.
Silent critics of Trump believe Trump can endorse candidates against them in GOP primaries, which could eventually end their political careers. Christie believes the GOP lost overwhelmingly in 2018, 2020, and 2022 just because of Trump.

Christie Wants Republicans to Disown Trump
Christie stated Republicans underperformed in midterm elections, as many election deniers ran for Congress, which helped Democrats.
In addition to that, Christie claimed Republicans should not be afraid of any specific person in their party; so everyone should stand by the principles on which the foundation of the GOP was laid.
Similarly, Christie asserted Republicans are losing most of their elections just because Trump decided to put himself above everyone else. After losing too many elections, everyone is tired in the GOP, Christie added.
Christie rose to national prominence after winning the gubernatorial election in the deep blue state of New Jersey in 2009. After winning his elections, Christie was expected to run for the presidency in 2012, but he opted to rerun for the New Jersey governorship instead.
Christie’s political career got a major dip after the Bridgegate scandal.
Officials of the Christie administration were accused of blocking the lanes on the George Washington Bridge, allegedly for isolating the city of Fort Lee, whose Democratic mayor did not support Christie in his 2013 gubernatorial elections.
Although Christie was not convicted in the Bridgegate scandal, he faced a political setback as people started questioning his competence as a politician.
