The aftermath of last month’s Capitol Hill riots is not over.

To this very day, National Guard troops remain stationed in Washington D.C. to shield the Capitol and ensure the safety of lawmakers. Reports have since indicated that the troops could be in D.C. until the end of this year; of course, taxpayers are the ones picking up the tab for this around-the-clock protection.

Many lawmakers were shaken up by the events of January 6, 2021. This has led to the push to ensure that a repeat of the insurrection never happens again. In keeping with this sentiment, the development of a congressional commission to probe the events of 1/6 is in the works, per Breitbart News.

A Closer Look at the January 6 Insurrection

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is going to be the driving force behind the establishment of a commission. This commission is also expected to mirror that of 9/11 while also being “independent.” Quite simply, the purposes here are to learn more information about the siege upon the Capitol last month and then report the findings.

In a letter to her colleagues, the Democrat House Speaker stated that the impeachment trial expresses a need to “get to the truth” of how the insurrection occurred.

The work to develop a commission is supported by Republicans and Democrats alike; lawmakers on both sides of the aisle agree that more information is imperative so that a repeat never happens again.

Delivering for the American People

Democrats have full majority control of Congress and they’re showing the nation how they value this. With the left in charge of Congress and the White House, they’ve been more focused on impeachment proceedings and last month’s insurrection than on policy.

Biden and Senate Democrats are ultimately behaving in ways that are alienating members of their own party as well. The promised $2,000 stimulus payments, for instance, have been slashed to $1,400, something that many Democrats aren’t happy about. The loss of Keystone Pipeline jobs has also impacted workers across the nation, some of whom voted for Joe Biden.

With all that is happening in the country, Americans are able to see where the priorities of the controlling party lie as of right now.
