Steve Bannon is the brains behind the America First movement. He developed the main concept of economic nationalism and putting the country ahead of globalism. He helped President Trump pitch that to the American people.
In addition to serving as Trump’s senior adviser in the White House, Bannon also started the influential War Room show after leaving the administration.
Though like many others close to Trump, the federal government has come after Bannon. In this case, they claim that he has “contempt” for Congress, due to not showing up to testify about January 6.
Today, Bannon will be sentenced.
What Are These Charges Anyway?
Bannon was issued a subpoena to testify about J6 in Congress and found guilty on two counts this past July.
Bannon was close to Trump; the J6 committee and lawmakers wanted to hear his sworn testimony about what he knew about the happenings of that day and how much had been planned or intentional.
The prosecution is demanding six months in jail for Bannon. His lawyers are asking he be let out on probation.
The counts are worth up to a year in jail each and up to $100,000 in fines. The maximum possible that Bannon could be hit with is, therefore, two years in jail and $200,000 in fines; although this is unlikely.
Bannon was convicted very rapidly in less than a day. This was by a jury of eight for not responding to the subpoena and not disclosing documents the J6 committee requested about attempts to deny the 2020 election results.

The Trump-Bannon Connection
Bannon was very close to Trump and helped him win the presidency in 2016. By the next year, he was the main adviser to 45; although the two later had disagreements.
Bannon is a key supporter for secure borders, America First economic policies, and protecting citizens from crime, wasteful spending, and fraudulent elite spending.
That said, he is accused of funneling money from a crowdfunded effort to build a border wall; although that is not what today’s sentencing regards.
If Bannon is found guilty of that, he could be looking at much more serious time: up to 15 years.
In addition to Bannon, former economic adviser Peter Navarro was dragged out in his boxers by the feds and charged with contempt of Congress as well. He goes on trial on Nov. 17.

The House of the People?
Congress is supposed to serve the people, not the other way around. Bannon is being punished for not obeying a summons from a dictatorial, bizarre regime that wants to use him as a political scapegoat.
He’s likely to appeal this sentence; at least he still has that right under the Biden-Harris regime. Though nonetheless, these are very dark days in America.
