12 days after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s historic visit to Taiwan, a group of American politicians arrived there early on Sunday morning.
President Tsai Ing-wen will reportedly be met during the two-day trip to Taipei, the nation’s capital.

According to Reuters, the de facto American embassy in the area verified that left-wing Senator Ed Markey is in charge of the group.
On what was characterized as a bigger political sweep around the Indo-Pacific area, he is accompanied by four other parliamentarians.
The delegation will see Tsai on Monday, according to Taiwan’s presidential office, as a gesture of solidarity, following Pelosi’s own brief travel to the island nation.

“Markey heading a team to visit Taiwan once again underscores the United States’ solid support for Taiwan, particularly at a time when China is now escalating hostilities in the Taiwan Strait and the surrounding area with military drills,” it said in a statement.
According to the Associated Press, a Taiwanese station earlier aired footage of a U.S. government aircraft landing at Songshan Airfield in Taipei, Taiwan’s capital, at around 7 p.m. on Sunday.
US Representative Aumua Amata Coleman Radewagen, an official from American Samoa, as well as Democratic Members of the House John Garamendi, Alan Lowenthal, as well as Don Beyer, make up the group, according to the news source.
