In Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis is campaigning for reelection. DeSantis has a lot going in his favor, from Florida voters being overwhelmingly Republican to the governor personally having a political war chest of over $100 million.
Nevertheless, looking to oust DeSantis is Florida Democrat Charlie Crist. Crist regularly compares DeSantis to the devil and claims he can unseat the Florida governor, despite being consistently behind him in the polls.
Wednesday, October 12 was set as the date on which DeSantis and Crist were set to debate one another. Though in light of Hurricane Ian hitting Florida last month, the debate between the two gubernatorial candidates has been put on hold, as documented by The Hill.
What to Know About the Delayed Debate
Up until Hurricane Ian hit Florida, WPEC News 12 was set to hold the DeSantis vs. Crist debate.
However, WPEC News 12’s parent company decided to put the debate on hold in the spirit of allowing both of Florida’s gubernatorial candidates to focus their efforts on helping the state recover from Hurricane Ian.

Thus far, the DeSantis and Crist campaigns have been provided various date choices in which they can reschedule the gubernatorial debate. Thus far, no replacement date has been announced.
Though with Florida’s Election Day being just next month, one debate later this month between the two candidates may be the only time in which they face off.
While the date of the debate has yet to be determined, its location is still set to occur at Fort Pierce’s Sunrise Theater.
Incoming Victory For DeSantis
Regardless of when DeSantis and Crist get around to directly debating one another, the odds of the Florida Democrat walking away with the win next month are practically zero.
For starters, one of the latest polls out of Florida shows DeSantis with a double-digit lead over Crist. On top of that, the Florida governor’s managed to get crossover support (with an endorsement from Dave Kerner, the Democratic commissioner of Palm Beach County).

Crist, on the other hand, has openly told Floridians he doesn’t want the votes of anyone in the state who likes DeSantis. Another factor working against Crist is his decision to cozy up to Biden in a state where the current president is deeply unpopular.
Before the hurricane hit Florida, Biden was set to make a stop in Orlando to campaign for Crist, but that too had to be delayed.
