Some people, such as Dr. Anthony Fauci, continue to assert face mask mandates, social distancing, and lockdowns as the best means of handling coronavirus. Fauci also maintains that these measures should remain in place even after the widespread circulation of a vaccine for COVID-19.
Rand Paul, a Republican senator and a doctor, disagrees with Fauci and has actually clashed with him on multiple occasions. Yesterday, the Kentucky GOP senator spoke with NewsmaxTV; during his segment, Paul stated the importance of releasing a coronavirus vaccine. He then declared that face masks and social distancing are not effective, due to the surging COVID-19 case numbers across the country.
In fact, Paul explained that since lockdowns, coronavirus has actually worsened across America. Regarding the vaccine, the GOP senator stated the best moves forward are for people to “voluntarily” get the shot, following the signing of informed consent documentation.

Shortly thereafter came Paul’s warning about Fauci and Fauci’s intentions. Paul declared that the doctor’s talk about the vaccine arriving to the public in April 2021 isn’t good enough; then, he proclaimed that Fauci would have Americans “masked until the end of time” if he had his way.
After again reemphasizing that face masks are doing nothing to stop COVID-19’s spread and transmission, the Kentucky senator stated that a vaccine is the only tool to “change the course” of this virus.
The Growing Consensus on Mask Mandates and Lockdowns
The overall consensus in the nation seems to support the claims made by Sen. Paul. Multiple polls show that fewer Americans today are willing to abide by shutdowns than they were earlier in 2020.
States like New York, Michigan, California, etc., have had strict mask mandates in place; yet, coronavirus cases are still surging in these areas. This, in and of itself, supports Paul’s claims that face masks are not stopping the spread of this virus.
