For almost the past year, Ukraine has been having a hard time. Last February, Russia invaded Ukraine with the sole intention of taking over the nation in merely a few days.
Naturally, this did not work out as Russia planned. Not only is Ukraine fighting back and standing its ground, but it’s also receiving vital support from western countries. In fact, as time passes, the war has gotten increasingly worse for Russia, rather than better.
Last year, many businesses cut ties with Russia over its invasion of Ukraine. This caused major hits to Russia’s economy and further isolated the autocratic nation from the rest of the world.
However, a recent incident in Ukraine is now making international headlines with folks questioning if Russia is involved, per the Associated Press.
What to Know About the Helicopter Crash in Ukraine
Denys Monastyrskyi, the Interior Minister of Ukraine, was traveling via helicopter on Wednesday when it crashed in Kyiv.
Tragically, Monastyrskyi did not survive the calamity. As a matter of fact, he’s the highest-ranking official in Ukraine to lose his life since last year’s infamous invasion by Russia.

At least 12 other casualties are reported due to the helicopter crash on Wednesday. Ukraine President Zelenskyy responded to the tragedy by deeming it a consequence of the war waged by Russia.
Zelenskyy, in public remarks, warned that when war takes place, it’s not mutually exclusive to battlefields, but can also happen in the air as well.
This certainly would not be the first time that Russia has resorted to barbaric means in order to send Ukraine a message and further inflict pain.
An Outpour of Support For Ukraine
Since the war commenced in 2022, the world has shown a continuous outpour of support for Ukraine as it fights back against Russia’s invasion. After news of Monastyrskyi’s passing, many world leaders once again reiterated their support for Ukraine and sent their condolences.
Many around the world, including here in the United States, have also been candid about what all is at stake if Russia wins the war. Many fear that Russia would only be emboldened to continue attacking other nations.
I was appalled to hear about the fatal helicopter crash and loss of life in Ukraine today. We stand with the people of Ukraine now and always.

Others have made the case that backing Ukraine in its fight against Russia is ultimately an investment in keeping an even greater world war at bay. So far, it remains to be seen how much longer the war carries on and whether or not more incidents like Wednesday’s helicopter crash take place.
