GOP Rep. Peter Meijer condemned what he called the “dangerous approach” of the Democrat Party to help his primary opponent, John Gibbs, win.
Gibbs has the support of the previous president of the United States, Donald Trump.
Democrats’ Interference
In a conversation on Sunday’s episode of Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan, Meijer discussed his disappointment with the money Democrats invested in his primary election.
Still, he also admitted he was to blame for his defeat. In the run-up to the primary election, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee gave Gibbs a lift by purchasing ads to the tune of $435,000.
He asserted he did not win his primary and he blames himself for it. That is something for which he bears responsibility. However, it is essential to keep in mind that former President Trump was the only candidate running in this election.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee made their first expenditures of the 2022 midterm elections by contributing around half a million dollars to help boost him. This was one of their initial expenses.

The congressman issued a warning to the Democrats that if Gibbs, who questioned the results of the 2020 election, prevails in November, it may be counterproductive for them to pour money into his campaign.
Backfire
Meijer stated even while he believes there was most probably a cynical calculation at play with the intervention of the Democrats, this is a hazardous technique.
This is a risky course of action. It is easy to imagine the strategy going horribly wrong in a dramatic way, which is all the more reason why they should refrain from incorporating the zero-sum idea of politics into their strategy.
President Biden’s approval rating is so low, it is difficult to see this strategy working. He went on to explain they should not be adopting this concept of trying to keep an issue alive and keep it growing.
They should be able to get a slight edge in the process that somehow translates to a triumph. He emphasized this is not something that they should be doing.
In the Republican primary for Michigan’s 3rd Congressional District that took place last week, Meijer was defeated by Gibbs by a margin of more than three percentage points.
Ten Republicans, including the new representative, voted for President Trump’s second impeachment on January 6, 2021, after violence broke out in the Capitol.

It’ll be one for the history books if the Democrat Party’s meddling comes back to bite them.
However, one can look at this as Meijer being sore from his “unexpected” defeat by Trump’s favored candidate.
Many are saying his loss, as well as that of other Republicans who voted to impeach the former president, is a sign Trump’s influence is as strong as ever.
