“When they go low, we go high?”
Michelle Obama famously coined this catchphrase during the 2016 presidential election, but it has proven to be anything other than indicative of the Democrat Party’s ways. Days ago, the former first lady took swipes at divorced dads in order to try to get in a jab at President Trump.
As one might imagine, this attempt thoroughly backfired, as documented by Fox News.
Michelle Obama on Divorced Dads
During an interview with Stephen Colbert, Obama shared her thoughts on where America currently is under the presidency of Donald Trump. This is the point in which she insulted divorced dads.
In her own words:
“Sometimes you spend the weekend with a divorced dad. That feels like fun but then you get sick. That is what America is going through. We’re kind of living with divorced dad.”
Reactions to Obama’s Comments
It goes without saying that Obama’s statements about divorced dads didn’t sit well with a lot of people. There are many reasons why men with children may be divorced and Obama’s comments certainly painted these dads in a very negative light.
Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera shared his thoughts on why Obama’s statements were belittling:
“She’s equating; she’s reduced us to a sexist stereotype with a bad parent who gives candy and lets the kids watch too much TV because we have a guilty conscience about the breakup of the marriage.”
Rivera then went on to state that Obama may have made a “rare misstep.”
The truth of the matter is that the remarks made by Obama are sexist. The commentary all but outright states that there is something wrong with fathers who happened to be divorced. If Obama saw nothing wrong with divorced dads, why would she use them in order to articulate her negative feelings about the current Trump presidency?
Imagine what would happen if a man made a negative statement about divorced mothers.
