In recent years, CNN has found itself bogged down with a number of problems.
2021 saw massive rating declines, which still haven’t quite bounced back. Then, on top of that, various anchors working for CNN had major scandals that tarnished the company’s image. CNN fired nearly all of these anchors eventually, but the negative PR is still there.
Since coming on board as the new head honcho, Chris Licht has been clear that he wants to improve CNN’s standing with the public.
However, New York Post reports that Licht is getting a lot of backlash, ever since CNN’s town hall event with former President Trump last week.
Another Gut Punch to CNN
Americans who tune into CNN have opined that the network should have cancelled its town hall with Trump after he lost a legal case against E. Jean Carroll, in which the writer convinced a jury that Trump likely sexually abused and defamed her.
Of course, CNN did not nuke the town hall after the jury’s verdict. Instead, the network had Trump on and asked various questions of him. These questions pertained to the 2020 presidential election, the 2024 presidential election, and his own campaign.

Nonetheless, Licht is pushing back against the criticism being directed toward him and his network. According to the new boss, it’s the job of CNN to get answers from our country’s leaders, regardless of whether or not the public likes these answers.
Competing Networks Weigh In
The Washington Post, MSNBC, and other news networks in competition with CNN are also sharing their thoughts about the town hall with Trump last week. Joe Scarborough, in particular, claimed that CNN’s hosting of Trump was “chilling.”

“The audience laughed and dismissed cops getting the sh** kicked out of them.”

Time will tell if CNN takes more hits as a result of this town hall. In the event that it does, other networks may use this as a chance to improve their own viewership numbers.
