Many higher-ups and big names within the Democrat Party are deeply concerned about the direction of left-wing candidates who seek to run against President Trump.
Figureheads like Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, and now former President Barack Obama have come out to issue warnings to 2020 Democrats. By their own admission, elite Democrats believe that many current candidates are jumping the gun and going so far left that it’ll play right into Trump’s hands.

On Friday, former President Obama spoke before the Democracy Alliance and somewhat admonished the current field of 2020 Democrats. According to the Washington Examiner, the 44th president warned that being “rooted in reality” is an important guideline for candidates who aspire to defeat President Trump.
Obama’s statements about 2020 Democrats come as the candidates get more radical and further to the left with each passing second.
Reviewing Obama’s Message to 2020 Democrats
The former president’s statements come as progressive socialists like Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders campaign on “revolutions” and “big, structural changes.” Obama appeared to censure these calls, stating that most Americans don’t favor “[completely] tearing down the system and [remaking] it.” The former president also declared that people in this country don’t want to “see crazy stuff.”
Obama’s commentary comes along with speculations about whether or not he’ll ever endorse the campaign of his former running mate Joe Biden. Thus far, Obama has yet to back Biden, although the former vice president claims that he actually asked the 44th commander-in-chief not to endorse his campaign just yet.
In additional statements, Obama stated that voters are proceeding with caution in regard to massive shifts in policy. He also declared that boldness and creativity shouldn’t be viewed as one and the same with leadership in America.
Reactions from Progressives
Not long after Obama’s remarks, “#TooFarLeft” trended on Twitter. Many Americans who lean left-of-center and favor progressivism stuck with the narrative that far-leftism is central to defeating Trump and righting supposed wrongs in the country. Thus far, none of the 2020 Democrats themselves have outrightly responded to Obama or directly condemned his statements.

The 44th president isn’t the first to warn 2020 Democrats that they’re going down a dangerous path and he probably won’t be the last. Still, in spite of warnings from people like Pelosi, Clinton, and Obama, candidates like Warren and Sanders continue to be lauded and praised by Democrats.
