Towards the end of last year, Republicans warned that some tough times would arrive if Democrats controlled both chambers of Congress in Washington. The GOP stated that higher taxes, D.C. statehood, job loss, attacks on law enforcement, etc., would materialize and have adverse impacts on the nation.
Already, Democrats in Congress are pushing for the far-left proposals that Republicans warned they would. It is for this reason that the GOP is working to ensure that their party regains control of the Senate and House next year; however, there is still some time between that point and this one.
According to Breitbart News, Democrats in the Senate have already submitted legislation to grant statehood to Washington D.C.
The Danger of D.C. Statehood
D.C. statehood is often framed by Democrats as a policy of fairness and equity; however, this is merely a cover for the left’s interest in expanding their party’s congressional power while drowning out the power and voices of Republicans in Washington.
Yesterday, Sen. Tom Carper of Delaware submitted a bill to turn Washington D.C. into America’s 51st state. Despite alleging that D.C. statehood isn’t a “Republican or [Democrat] issue,” Carper acknowledges that having Democrats in control of Congress and the White House increases the likelihood of a 51st state in America.
More overplay from the Democrats – it’s going to be fun watching them lose the House and Senate in 2022 just like they did in Obama’s era.

Since the Democrat senator’s submission of the aforementioned legislation, many of his in-party colleagues are on board. Should D.C. obtain statehood, Democrats would gain two additional seats in the Senate; this is why the left is pushing so hard for adding a 51st state to the country.
The 46th president is also a public supporter of D.C. statehood.
Overplaying Their Hand?
Despite the Democrat Party currently controlling Congress, some Americans believe that the left is overplaying its hand. Many of the executive orders and policies being issued under Biden already serve as fodder for Republicans in the upcoming 2022 midterms.
Pres. Biden directed federal agencies to determine how broad of a ban federal lands should have on new oil & gas leasing.
This ban will have REAL consequences for Americans:
—cost our economy $700B
—kill ~1M jobs by 2022
—consumers will pay an extra $500B to foreign suppliers— GOP (@GOP) January 27, 2021
During Obama’s time as president, Democrats infamously had control of the House and Senate, yet lost it. As things currently stand, the GOP is working hard to ensure that Democrats do not continue to control Congress throughout Biden’s entire presidency.
The campaign for D.C. statehood also arrives as the Democrat Party pushes for a $15 federal minimum wage; this, too, is another policy backed by the 46th president.
