The economy remains a pressing matter in the fight against coronavirus, despite what some people are claiming.
To date, the shelter-in-place, lockdown measures being taken against COVID-19 serve as the greatest threat to our nation’s economy, jobs, and American Dream. While coronavirus has a high recovery rate of over 90%, economic decline does not; yet, for each day that our economy remains closed, we get closer and closer to the brink of collapse.
“White House Coronavirus Update Briefing” (Public Domain) by The White House
Yesterday, House Minority Whip Steve Scalise noted the critical position that our nation’s economy is in, according to Breitbart News. Scalise’s warning comes as certain health leaders blindly call for 12-18 more months of shutdowns with absolutely no regard for the economic ruin this would bring to the United States of America.
Scalise on Reopening the Economy
During a sit-down with the Brian Kilmeade Show, Scalise shared some critical and urgent insight regarding the economy. The House Minority Whip stated that if shutdowns last for even two more months, there simply won’t be a country to return to. Scalise also noted his support for finding a peak and then gradually reopening the economy.
Congressman @SteveScalise said it's more efficient to test drugs for possible COVID-19 treatments that have already been approved by the FDA, like hydroxychloroquine on #TheBrianKilmeadeShow @foxnewsradio https://t.co/wtyvo6u2iD

The House Minority Whip’s warning about continuing to deplete the economy comes at a critical time. Millions of Americans are out of work due to governments forcing so-called “non-essential” businesses to shut their doors. Many of these businesses will not be able to come back from the damage that’s already here; continuing down the current path of a closed economy only ensures more of the same.
Balanced Measures Against COVID-19
Contrary to certain narratives, taking balanced measures against coronavirus without destroying the economy is possible. The assertion that economic destruction is an inevitable casualty of ending COVID-19 is inaccurate and binary thinking.
The cure cannot be worse than the problem. Increasing access to testing, quarantining sick individuals, and encouraging social distancing for the more vulnerable are each reasonable measures against coronavirus. What’s not reasonable is the false premise that America is incapable of beating COVID-19 without destroying ourselves and our nation in the process.
