Trump Responds to William Barr on Declassification Claim

Former Attorney General William Barr called former President Trump’s assertion that he declassified materials with classified markings discovered at Mar-a-Lago in September “very implausible.”

William Barr is skeptical of Trump

Barr, who served as attorney general in both the Trump and George H.W. Bush administrations stated during an appearance on Fox News:

“I can’t think of a valid reason why they might be transferred out of and away from the government if they’re classified.”

“Secondly, if [Trump] really did stand over dozens of boxes without knowing what was inside and declare, ‘I hereby declassify everything in here,’ that would be such abuse and display of reckless behavior that it would almost be worse than stealing the documents.”

The “complete declassification” of “any and all documents” pertaining to the US probe into potential Russia-Trump collusion, as well as records pertaining to the use of a private email server by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, was officially ordered by Trump in October 2020.

Although Trump assigned the declassification to Barr, then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows claimed in a sworn declaration that the order did not “require the declassification or release of any particular documents.”

The White House reportedly informed the Justice Department as well. Trump recently cited a memo he issued on January 19, 2021, declassifying other records.

Several former Trump administration officials have confirmed Trump declassified a number of papers, corroborating Trump’s assertion, including Kash Patel, a current EpochTV host.

Trump responds to Barr

After taking office as attorney general in 2019, Barr gained a reputation as a fervent supporter of Trump. Nevertheless, as the presidency came to a close, Barr publicly broke with the president on a number of matters, including claims of election fraud.

Following Barr’s remarks, Trump claimed the previous attorney general is a Republican in name only, or RINO, who “became a slave to the Radical Left Democrats because he was so frightened of being impeached.”

“Barr never put in the effort he needed to have for election integrity and a host of other issues. As A.G., he got off to a good start, but quickly ran out of both courage and stamina. People like him will never restore greatness to America,” Trump continued.

Trump also criticized Barr for holding onto the laptop that formerly belonged to Hunter Biden. He said Barr reacted too slowly to former special counsel Robert Mueller’s report, which found no collusion between Trump or his campaign and Russia.

“The material from the laptops should have been made public BEFORE the Rigged Election, not after it,” according to Trump.

Barr argued making the existence of a federal investigation into President Biden’s son, Hunter, public prior to the election would not have changed the results.
