The mainstream media has done Americans an immense disserve with their manner of reporting coronavirus. Not only does the press choose the most sensationalized headlines, but they also neglect to mention important information like COVID-19 recoveries.
Contrary to what some Americans may be aware of, coronavirus recoveries extensively outweigh coronavirus deaths. If the mainstream media did their due diligence and provided fair, balanced coverage, there might be less panic and fewer Americans out of work.
Yesterday, CNN challenged President Trump on his promotion of the anti-malaria drug known as hydroxychloroquine, reports Breitbart News. Hydroxychloroquine has been linked to the alleviation of COVID-19 in some cases. Therefore, the president is eager to learn more about if this drug can save additional lives and stop coronavirus.
Trump vs. CNN: The Hydroxychloroquine Edition
Yesterday, CNN reporter Jeremy Diamond asked President Trump why he continues discussing hydroxychloroquine as a possible solution to coronavirus rather than letting “the science speak for itself.”
Trump responded by noting his interest in saving lives. Shortly thereafter, the president also informed Diamond that the United States government is buying significant quantities of hydroxychloroquine. Despite the links that the anti-malaria drug shares to lessening COVID-19 symptoms, Trump did admit that the drug might not work, but is still worth a shot.
Diamond: Why not let the science speak for itself? Why are you promoting this drug?
Trump: I’m not. You know what I’m trying to do. I’m trying to save lives. I want them to try it and it may work and it may not work. But if it doesn’t work, it’s nothing lost by doing it. pic.twitter.com/3JsGdF3lZD— Acyn Torabi (@Acyn) April 5, 2020
After fielding additional inquiries about hydroxychloroquine and its potential impact on coronavirus, the president reiterated a key point. Trump noted that there’s “nothing lost” by conducting clinical tests to see if hydroxychloroquine is effective against COVID-19.
Remaining Open to Solutions
At this point in time, it’s important for Americans to remain open to solutions, as they pertain to hydroxychloroquine. Maybe the drug will be helpful in the fight against coronavirus and maybe not; either way, it’s worth looking into and shouldn’t be automatically written off.
It is time for the mainstream media to start being as vocal about COVID-19 recoveries as they are about deaths linked to the virus. According to the Johns Hopkins coronavirus tracker, more than 270,000 individuals across the globe have recovered from the virus; meanwhile, roughly over 70,000 succumbed to COVID-19.
Each death is a tragedy, but at this point, the mainstream media is purposefully stoking fear and panic in their biased reports and dismissal of potential solutions.
