Their parents, Tim and Shaneka Ruffin, discovered the twins were conjoined during a routine ultrasound 12 weeks into the pregnancy.
Despite an initial recommendation to terminate the pregnancy, a second opinion confirmed the possibility of successful separation. This glimmer of hope led the Ruffins to pursue treatment at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), one of the few U.S. hospitals with expertise in separating conjoined twins.
