A 22-year-old illegal immigrant from El Salvador has been charged with the brutal murders of two women in New York, stabbing both victims multiple times in what police describe as a crime of pure rage. The suspect entered the United States illegally in 2016 as a minor during the Obama administration.

Wendy’s Worker Confesses to Double Murder

Rony Yahir Alvarenga Rivera was arrested Friday after Nassau County police responded to a Wendy’s restaurant on Austin Boulevard in Island Park just after midnight. Officers discovered 42-year-old Ana Maria del Aguila-Cordova, a coworker of Rivera’s, stabbed to death while taking out the garbage. Rivera called police himself and confessed to the killing, then informed investigators about a second victim. Police found his 32-year-old roommate dead at her Valley Stream home, killed hours earlier around 9:00 PM Thursday.

Mother of Two Among the Victims

Del Aguila-Cordova, a Long Beach resident, leaves behind two young children aged eight and one. Nassau Police Detective Lieutenant George Darienzo, commanding officer of the homicide unit, told reporters both women suffered multiple stab wounds to the neck and torso. When asked about motive, Darienzo offered a single word: anger. He declined to provide additional details about what triggered the deadly rampage that claimed two innocent lives within hours.

Border Security Questions Resurface

Rivera entered the country illegally from El Salvador in 2016 at age 12, during President Barack Obama’s second term in office. Police Chief Patrick Ryder stated the crime scenes showed evidence of extreme violence consistent with someone acting in a fit of rage. Rivera has pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree and second-degree murder. The case renews debate over border enforcement policies and the vetting of minors entering the United States illegally. Both victims were hardworking women with no apparent connection to criminal activity.
