Trump and Musk Blast Biden, Claim ‘We Don’t Have a President Right Now’

In a blistering exchange on August 12, 2024, former President Donald Trump and billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk leveled heavy criticism against President Joe Biden, with both men agreeing that the United States is effectively leaderless. The conversation occurred during an X Space discussion, where Trump and Musk echoed each other’s sentiments about Biden’s fitness to lead the nation.

Trump initiated the critique by harshly questioning Biden's capabilities, referencing a recent video of Biden appearing frail and struggling at the beach. “Biden is close to vegetable stage, in my opinion,” Trump remarked, criticizing the optics of Biden’s public appearances. He added, “The guy could barely walk. Does he have a political adviser that thinks this looks good? Because it looks so bad.” Trump’s remarks were made in reference to Biden's frequent vacations, which, according to Republican critics, have consumed 40% of his presidency.

Musk, the CEO of X and Tesla, responded to Trump’s comments with a stinging agreement, stating, “It’s clearly, like, we just don’t have a president right now.” This sentiment was further echoed by Trump, who said, “You don’t have a president,” emphasizing the notion that Biden’s lack of leadership has left the country without a true figurehead.

The conversation did not stop at Biden. Trump and Musk also took aim at Vice President Kamala Harris, with Trump predicting that she would be “worse than him” if she were to assume the presidency. He labeled Harris as a “radical left San Francisco liberal” who has already caused significant damage to California during her tenure as attorney general. Trump cited policies like cashless bail, which he argued have led to an increase in crime, as examples of Harris’s detrimental impact.

Musk, who has been vocal about his disillusionment with the Democratic Party, reinforced his support for Trump, positioning the 45th president as the “right path” for America’s future. He expressed concerns that the Biden administration had moved too far left and warned that Harris’s potential presidency would only exacerbate this trend. “I think a lot of people thought the Biden administration would be a moderate administration, but it’s not. And obviously, we’re just going to see an even further left administration with Kamala,” Musk asserted.

This critique comes at a time when Harris is under increased scrutiny, particularly after adopting Trump’s “no tax on tips” policy, which she had previously opposed. The vice president’s sudden shift has drawn accusations of hypocrisy and political opportunism, with critics pointing out that Harris was the tie-breaking vote for the Inflation Reduction Act, which empowered the IRS to track tips for taxation purposes. This apparent flip-flop has not gone unnoticed, with social media users dubbing her "CopyCatKamala".

The conversation between Trump and Musk highlights the growing alliance between the former president and the tech mogul, who has increasingly leaned into conservative politics. Musk, once a self-described moderate Democrat, has shifted his stance, urging others in the moderate camp to support Trump’s bid for the presidency in 2024. Musk’s endorsement is significant, given his substantial influence and following on social media platforms.

As the 2024 election approaches, the discourse surrounding Biden’s leadership and Harris’s role as vice president is likely to intensify. With prominent figures like Trump and Musk openly challenging the administration’s effectiveness, the political landscape is set for a contentious battle. Their critique underscores a broader narrative among conservatives who argue that the current administration is out of touch and unfit to govern.
